EXCLUSIVE | El Helbawi denies government interference following EFA dissolution

Lawyer Magda El Helbawi has asserted that the court decision to dissolve the (EFA) board is final and can’t be appealed.

’s Supreme Administrative Court ordered the dissolution of the EFA board of directors earlier on Sunday after accepting a lawsuit filed by El Helbawi and Hermas Radwan, candidates for the EFA 2012 elections.

“The court ruling is final and binding,” El Helbawi told KingFut after the court accepted the lawsuit over election irregularities.

The verdict obligates minister of youth and sports Khaled Abdel-Aziz to dissolve the EFA board headed by Gamal Allam.

“We will inform the minister of sports with the court decision and it should be enforced,” she added.

El Helbawi explained that in case of the minister’s failure to enforce the court decision, major consequences might take place.

“We will then file a misdemeanor charge against him and this may lead to receiving a prison sentence and removal from office,” she explained.

Several voices have expected the re-appointment of the dissolved board as was the case of the dissolved board. El Helbawi, however, said it is expected that an executive director will be appointed until the next general assembly for the EFA, scheduled in October, takes place.

El Helbawi denied statements of Abdel-Aziz and FIFA Executive Committee member Hany Abou Rida concerning fears of suspending the EFA on account of governmental interference. Articles 13 and 17 of the FIFA Statutes oblige member associations to manage their affairs independently and with no influence from third parties.

“This is a court ruling. Suspension could happen when it is a direct decision from the minister not when it is based on a binding court ruling,” El Helbawi explained.

The former EFA candidate also revealed her plans to file a compensation claim against the dissolved EFA board.

The case dates back to 2012 after the two candidates filed a lawsuit over allegations of vote rigging during the elections.
