Former Egypt national team assistant coach Shawky Gharib replaces Bob Bradley at the helm – who was let go after failing to reach the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil – and joining him is four-time Africa Cup of Nations winner Ahmed Hassan among other former star players.
The Egypt Olympic team qualified for the London 2012 Games following a 20-year absence. Former Al Ahly manager Hossam El-Badry has been appointed as the Olympic national team head coach, replacing Hany Ramzy.
The Young Pharaohs won the African Youth Championship for the first time in a decade and qualified to the 2013 U-20 World Cup in Turkey. Despite the high expectations, Egypt failed to make it past the group stage.
